A walking foot, also called an even‑feed foot, it is an attachment for your sewing machine that helps feed multiple layers of fabric evenly through the machine.

What it does

It has an extra set of feed dogs (the little teeth that move fabric) built into the foot itself. These move in sync with the machine’s feed dogs underneath, so the top and bottom layers of fabric move together instead of one slipping ahead of the other.

When to use it

• Quilting: Keeps the quilt top, batting, and backing aligned while stitching.
