An AG24 intarsia carriage is a special attachment for Silver Reed / Knitmaster knitting machines that lets you knit true intarsia — large blocks of colour without floats across the back.
If you’ve ever done hand‑knit intarsia, this carriage gives you the same effect but much faster and with beautifully even tension.
What the AG24 intarsia carriage does
- Allows you to knit multiple separate colour areas across a single row
- Drops and picks up yarns only where needed, so there are no floats on the reverse
- Lets you knit:
- Pictures and motifs
- Geometric blocks
- Colour‑blocked garments
- Large intarsia panels
- Works with unlimited colours (you manually place each yarn)
How it works
- The AG24 replaces your main carriage for intarsia rows
- You lay each yarn across the needles by hand where that colour should knit
- As you pass the AG24 across the bed, it knits only the needles with yarn laid in
- You twist yarns at colour changes to avoid holes
- The back of the fabric stays clean and float‑free
It’s essentially a controlled, machine‑assisted version of hand‑knit intarsia.
When you’d use an AG24
- Knitting pictures (animals, characters, logos, scenery)
- Colour‑blocked sweaters and cardigans
- Cushions and blankets with motifs
- Any design where floats would be messy or impractical
Compatible with
The AG24 works with many Silver Reed punchcard and electronic machines, including the SK280, SK840, SK860 and similar models.
