DesignaKnit 9 is a comprehensive knitwear design program for both machine knitters and hand knitters, offering tools for garment shaping, stitch pattern creation, image‑to‑knit conversion, and interactive knitting guidance. It is the current version of the long‑running DesignaKnit software and includes several major modules that work together to take a design from concept to finished knitting.

Core Purpose

DesignaKnit 9 provides a full workflow for designing garments, drafting custom shapes, creating stitch patterns, and knitting interactively with compatible machines. It supports Silver Reed electronic machines (via SilverLink), punch‑card machines, and hand knitting.

Main Modules in DesignaKnit 9

1. Garment Styling

Allows you to choose standard garment shapes (men, women, children, babies) and adjust measurements, ease, and styling features. It can generate complete knitting instructions or serve as a starting point for more advanced drafting.

2. Original Pattern Drafting

Available in the Machine Pro, HandKnit, and Complete versions. Provides near‑total freedom to design garment shapes from scratch, trace existing garments, or modify standard shapes. Ideal for custom fit and advanced shaping.

3. Stitch Designer

A powerful grid‑based environment for designing stitch patterns, including:

• Multi‑colour patterns
• Textures
• Lace
• Cables
• Pattern repeats You can overlay stitch patterns onto garment pieces and prepare them for printing or interactive knitting.

4. Interactive Knitting

Guides you row‑by‑row through shaping, colour changes, and pattern placement. For machine knitters, it synchronizes with many knitting machines using cable links such as SilverLink. For hand knitters, it provides visual row tracking and instructions.

5. Graphics Studio

Converts images (photos, drawings, scans) into knit‑ready stitch patterns. You can control colour reduction, stitch/row counts, and yarn palette mapping.

PLEASE NOTE: DesignaKnit 9 does not run on macOS. A Windows PC is required to install and use the software.
